DIY Raspberry-Themed Lip Mask for Soft and Hydrated Lips

Introduction

Hey there, skincare enthusiasts! If you’re looking for a natural way to take care of your dry, chapped lips with a product you made yourself, you’re in the right place. Today, I’m sharing a fantastic recipe for a raspberry-themed lip mask that’s not only nourishing but also super fun to make. This lip mask has a wonderful consistency and feels amazing on your lips—trust me, it’s a game-changer!

Why Lip Care Matters

Our lips are super sensitive—they’re actually one of the most delicate parts of our skin. Unlike the rest of our skin, they don’t have that extra protective layer. This means they’re more likely to get dry, crack, and be affected by things like the sun, wind, and cold weather. Since our lips are always exposed to these elements, they can lose moisture and become chapped.

Using a lip mask can really help! It provides deep hydration, repairs any damage, and protects your lips from future harm. It locks in moisture and delivers nourishing ingredients that keep your lips soft, smooth, and healthy.

I hope I’ve convinced you not to neglect your lips in your skincare routine and to start using a lip mask if you don’t already. So, without further ado, let’s dive into today’s recipe!

DIY Raspberry-Themed Lip Mask Recipe

This lip mask is an oil-based product, which means there’s no water in it. We’ll be working with two phases: the heated oil phase and the cool-down phase.

Ingredients for 10g batch

Heated Oil Phase:

  • 1grams Mango Butter
    • Why? Mango butter is rich in vitamins A and E, which deeply moisturize and soothe dry, chapped lips. It gives our lip mask a creamy texture that’s super smooth.
  • .2 grams Cocoa Butter
    • Why? Cocoa butter is packed with antioxidants and fatty acids. It nourishes and protects your lips by locking in moisture. Plus, it adds a subtle, pleasant scent.
  • .2 grams Beeswax
    • Why? Beeswax helps our lip mask set and gives it structure. It creates a protective barrier to lock in moisture and shield lips from the elements.
  • 2.3 grams Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
    • Why? A lightweight oil derived from coconut oil and glycerin, it makes the lip mask glide smoothly without feeling greasy.
  • .5 grams Dimethicone
    • Why? Forms a protective layer on your skin, sealing in hydration and giving the lip mask a silky feel.
  • 1.4 grams Raspberry Seed Oil
    • Why? Rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, it nourishes and regenerates lips. Plus, it adds a nice touch to our raspberry theme.
  • 1.2 grams Sunflower Oil
    • Why? High in vitamin E and fatty acids, sunflower oil keeps your lips soft, smooth, and hydrated.
  • 3 grams Sucragel
    • Why? A natural gelling agent made from sugar, Sucragel gives our lip mask a smooth, gel-like texture.

Cool-Down Phase:

  • .1 grams Oil-Soluble Hyaluronic Acid
    • Why? A superstar at attracting and holding onto moisture, keeping your lips hydrated and plump.
  • .05 grams Vitamin E Oil
    • Why? An antioxidant that nourishes your skin and helps protect it from damage, while also extending the shelf life of the lip mask.
  • .05 grams Raspberry Fragrance Oil
    • Why? Adds a delightful scent that makes the lip mask more enjoyable to use. Ensure it’s lip-safe.
  • .025 grams Rose Mica Powder
    • Why? Adds a lovely tint and subtle shimmer to the lip mask, enhancing its visual appeal to match the raspberry theme.

As usual, you’ll find all the measurements in the description box below. If you want more details about the ingredients used in this recipe, please refer to the blog post that comes with this video.

Equipment Needed

  • Precision scale (0.1g accuracy)
  • Heat-safe container (like a beaker or glass bowl)
  • Double boiler setup (saucepan and heat-resistant bowl)
  • Stirring utensils
  • Clean containers for storing the lip mask (small jars or tins)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Heated Oil Phase

  • Measure Ingredients: Using your precision scale, weigh out all the ingredients listed under the heated oil phase.
  • Combine Ingredients: Place all the ingredients into your heat-safe container.
  • Cover: Cover your container to prevent any water from getting in during heating.

2. Melt the Ingredients

  • Set Up Double Boiler: Fill a saucepan with about an inch of water and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  • Heat Gently: Place your covered container into the saucepan. Ensure the water doesn’t splash into your mixture.
  • Stir Occasionally: Gently heat the mixture, stirring occasionally, until everything is fully melted and combined. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes.

3. Cool the Mixture

  • Remove from Heat: Carefully take the container out of the saucepan. Be cautious—it will be hot!
  • Let It Cool: Allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature. This is important to prevent damaging the heat-sensitive ingredients in the cool-down phase.

4. Add Cool-Down Phase Ingredients

  • Hyaluronic Acid: Slowly add the oil-soluble hyaluronic acid into the cooled mixture while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  • Vitamin E Oil: Add it to the mixture and stir well.
  • Fragrance Oil: Add a few drops of raspberry fragrance oil (adjust to your preference) and mix thoroughly.
  • Mica Powder: Start with a small amount of rose mica powder, mix well, and add more if you desire a deeper color.

5. Mix Thoroughly

  • Ensure Uniformity: Make sure all ingredients are well combined, especially the mica powder, to achieve an even color and texture.

6. Let It Set

  • Overnight Rest: Allow the lip mask to set overnight at room temperature. This helps it reach its final consistency.

7. Transfer to Containers

  • Prepare Containers: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized.
  • Fill Containers: Spoon or pour the lip mask into your containers.
  • Smooth the Surface: Use a clean utensil to smooth the top if needed.
  • Seal: Secure the lids tightly.

Usage Instructions

  • Application: Apply a generous layer of the lip mask to your lips whenever they need extra hydration.
  • Overnight Treatment: For best results, use it as an overnight treatment to wake up with soft, smooth lips.
  • Daytime Use: Use a thinner layer during the day for continuous nourishment.

Tips and Notes

  • Ingredient Substitutions:
    • If you don’t have raspberry seed oil, feel free to use any carrier oil you prefer, like sweet almond or jojoba oil.
    • For a vegan version, replace beeswax with candelilla wax (use about half the amount since it’s harder).
  • Customization: Experiment with different mica powders and fragrances to create your own unique lip mask.
  • Allergy Check: Perform a patch test if you’re using new ingredients to ensure you don’t have any sensitivities.

Why Each Ingredient Matters

Understanding the role of each ingredient helps you appreciate how they work together:

  • Mango Butter: Provides deep moisturization and a creamy texture.
  • Cocoa Butter: Adds nourishment and forms a protective barrier to lock in moisture.
  • Beeswax: Helps the lip mask set and forms a protective barrier on the lips.
  • Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: Enhances spreadability and gives a non-greasy feel.
  • Dimethicone: Locks in moisture and gives a silky, smooth texture.
  • Raspberry Seed Oil: Rich in antioxidants, it nourishes and regenerates the lips.
  • Sunflower Oil: Hydrates and maintains the skin’s natural barrier.
  • Sucragel: Creates a smooth, gel-like texture that’s easy to apply.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Attracts and retains moisture for plump, hydrated lips.
  • Vitamin E Oil: Nourishes the lips and extends the product’s shelf life.
