DIY Tree Hut Pumpkin Spice Body Scrub Dupe

As the crisp air rolls in and the cozy fall vibes take over, it’s the perfect time to indulge in all things pumpkin spice. One of my favorite seasonal beauty products is the Tree Hut Pumpkin Spice Body Scrub, but what if you could recreate it at home with simple, natural ingredients? In today’s post, I’ll walk you through how to dupe this popular scrub at home, step-by-step!

Not only will this DIY scrub leave your skin feeling soft and smooth, but it also captures the essence of autumn with its warm, spicy fragrance. Let’s get started!

Why Make Your Own Body Scrub?

  • Customizable: You can tweak the recipe to suit your preferences (add a touch of extra oil for hydration or adjust the fragrance strength).
  • Budget-Friendly: Making your own scrub can be a more cost-effective alternative to store-bought options.

Ingredients You’ll Need

To recreate Tree Hut’s Pumpkin Spice Body Scrub, I turned to the ingredient list available on the INCI Decoder website and simplified it using what I had on hand. Here’s what you’ll need:

Oil Phase:

  • 5g Silica
  • 25g Polysorbate 20
  • 12.5g Shea butter
  • 5g Orange Oil
  • 2.5g Macadamia oil
  • 5g Evening primerose oil
  • 7.5g Sweet Almond oil
  • 2,.5g Avocado oil
  • 12.5g Safflower oil

Water Phase:

  • 8.75g Distilled water
  • 6.25g Glycerin

Cool Down Phase:

  • 148.125 fine granulated Sugar
  • .625g Orange Mica
  • 5g Pumpkin Extract
  • 1.25g Vitamin C
  • 1.25g Pumpkin pie Fragrance oil
  • 1.25g Phenoxyethanol

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Oil Phase

In a heat-safe container, combine all ingredients for the oil phase.

This phase provides the luxurious, moisturizing base for the scrub. Shea butter and the various oils ensure that your skin stays hydrated and protected after exfoliation. Silica typically helps create the signature jelly-like texture found in Tree Hut scrubs, but if you don’t have the right kind, the scrub will still feel smooth and effective!

2. Prepare the Water Phase

Mix together distilled water and glycerin in another heat-safe container. Glycerin adds moisture to your scrub, making it more hydrating.

3. Heat Both Phases

Heat both the oil and water phases to around 75°C (167°F). Once they reach the right temperature, remove them from the heat. Slowly pour the water phase into the oil phase, mixing thoroughly. You can use a small whisk or a milk frother since this is a small water phase. Keep mixing until the two phases are fully combined.

4. Cool Down Phase

Once the base has cooled down to room temperature, it’s time to add the following cool-down ingredients:

  • Granulated Sugar (the exfoliator that scrubs away dead skin cells)
  • Pumpkin Extract (rich in enzymes and antioxidants)
  • Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C for skin brightening)
  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E for added nourishment)
  • Fragrance Oil (Pumpkin spice scent)
  • Preservative (Phenoxyethanol to keep your scrub fresh)

The sugar should be mixed in gently until it’s fully incorporated into the scrub.

5. Add Color

To give the scrub that quintessential pumpkin look, I added a bit of orange mica powder. It adds a lovely autumn hue without the need for synthetic colorants.

6. Let It Set

Once everything is mixed together, let the scrub sit overnight. You may notice some separation after it sits—this is totally normal. Just give it a quick stir with a spatula, and it’ll be perfect!

Final Thoughts & Tips

After letting the scrub sit overnight, I noticed that it didn’t have the jelly-like texture I was aiming for, likely due to the silica not gelling the oils as I had hoped. However, the end result still smells amazing, exfoliates wonderfully, and leaves the skin feeling soft and hydrated.

If you want to experiment, try using different oils or playing around with the fragrance strength to match your personal preferences. Also, keep in mind that homemade scrubs can have a slightly different texture than store-bought versions, but the benefits of knowing exactly what’s in your product make it totally worth it!

FAQs

Q: Can I use different oils in the recipe?
Absolutely! Feel free to substitute oils based on what you have available or your skin’s needs. For instance, coconut oil or jojoba oil can be great alternatives.

Q: Can I leave out the colorants?
Of course! The color doesn’t affect the scrub’s effectiveness, so you can leave it out if you prefer an all-natural look.
